The best free OBS plugins for church streaming

OBS is remarkably capable out of the box, but a few free plugins add exactly the features churches tend to need — bringing in network cameras and graphics, cleaning up audio, and smoothing out switching. Here are the ones worth installing, and the one you shouldn't skip.

Start here: the NDI plugin

If you install only one thing, make it the NDI plugin. OBS doesn't support NDI on its own, and NDI is what lets other computers and devices — extra cameras, a lyrics or graphics machine, and an automatic scripture feed — join your stream over a single network cable, no capture cards. For most growing church setups, it's transformative.

Once installed, you add an NDI source in OBS and pick your device. Full walkthrough: how to add an NDI source in OBS, and background in NDI for churches.

The NDI plugin is the difference between OBS as a single-camera tool and OBS as the hub of a real multi-source production. If your church is growing at all, install it first.

Audio helpers

Clean audio is half your stream, and a couple of free audio plugins help:

  • Noise suppression and gate tools (some built in, some added) tame background hiss and hum.
  • Level/loudness helpers keep your output at a consistent volume so viewers aren't reaching for the volume control.

That said, the biggest audio win is still a clean feed from the desk — see connecting your mixer to the streaming PC.

Switching and scene helpers

Plugins exist to make live operation smoother:

  • Scene-switching and hotkey helpers make cutting between shots faster and less error-prone.
  • Transition and stinger tools add polished moves between scenes.

These are nice-to-haves once your basics are solid. Keep your scene setup simple first.

A word of caution

Every plugin you add is one more thing that can conflict, break after an update, or confuse a volunteer. So:

  1. Install NDI firstThe one plugin nearly every growing church benefits from.
  2. Add others only for a real needAudio or switching helpers when you actually hit a limit.
  3. Keep it leanFewer, well-chosen plugins are more reliable on a Sunday.
  4. Update carefullyTest plugins after OBS updates before you go live.

Scripture over NDI

With the NDI plugin in place, TajiCast slots right in: it detects the verse your preacher speaks and sends it into OBS over NDI, so scripture appears on your stream automatically, alongside your cameras — no extra software juggling.

Frequently asked questions

What are the best free OBS plugins for church streaming?
The most useful are the NDI plugin (to bring in network cameras, graphics, and scripture), audio helper plugins for cleaner sound, and scene-switching or transition helpers. Start with NDI, then add others only as you need them.
Does OBS need plugins to stream church?
No, OBS streams fine on its own. Plugins add specific features you may want, like NDI support for network sources or extra audio tools. Install only the ones that solve a real need for your setup.
How do I add scripture to OBS?
Install the NDI plugin, then add an NDI source for your scripture feed and position it as a lower-third. Tools like TajiCast output the detected verse over NDI, so it appears in OBS like any other source.
