How to choose a PTZ camera for your church

What "PTZ" actually means
PTZ stands for pan, tilt, zoom — all controlled remotely. Instead of someone standing behind the camera, your operator moves it from the booth with a controller or software. For a one-person media team or a church short on volunteers, that's a game-changer: three angles, one operator.
Is a PTZ right for you?
- Yes, if you want multiple angles but don't have people to run each camera.

1. Connection type
How the camera gets its video (and control) to your system is the biggest decision:

Match the optical zoom to your room. A small room needs little; a large auditorium needs a lot to frame the preacher tightly from a wall mount. Ignore big "digital zoom" numbers — digital zoom just crops the image and makes it softer. Only optical zoom keeps quality.
3. Control
Decide how you'll drive it: a physical joystick controller (fast and tactile) or software control from your streaming PC. A joystick is worth it once you're moving cameras live during a service.
Don't buy on zoom numbers alone. A PTZ with modest optical zoom, clean NDI output, and smooth, quiet movement will serve you far better than a spec-sheet monster that's jerky on screen or a pain to connect.

However the camera connects, it becomes a source in your switcher. With NDI, it appears on the network automatically; with HDMI, you'll need a capture card. From there, set up your OBS scenes to cut between angles.
